What about the procedure?
It’s a multi-step journey with a destination well worth it.

Step 1

First, we tackle any decayed or damaged teeth, possibly throwing in some bone grafting for good measure. Healing time is key here, complete with a new healing denture.

Step 2

Next up, the dental implant placement – a job for the skilled hands of an experienced implant dentist Patience is key, as it takes a few months for those implants to join up to your jawbone. But fear not, you’ll have your trusty healing denture to keep you company.

Step 3

Once those implants have integrated like old, it’s scan or/and impression time. Your dentist will send off the goods to a dental lab, where the skilled technician crafts your custom dentures.

Step 4

Finally, the big reveal – your new denture attaches to those implants like it was always meant to be.

FAQs about Implant Retained Dentures :

What about longevity?

With proper TLC, those dental implants can stick around for a lifetime. Your overdenture, the one that sits atop those implants, might need a refresh every 10 to 20 years. It’s a small price to pay for the comfort and security you’ll enjoy as implant retained dentures offer perks that traditional dentures can only dream of. No slipping, prevention of jawbone loss, a natural appearance, and a longer lifespan.

What about the recovery time?
For most patients this is a breeze, and you can return to your daily life within days. Eating? Totally safe once those implants have healed but we recommend a sfoter diet for a few weeks post implant placement for peace of mind.
What about ongoing costs?

Regular hygienist visits are the ticket to keeping those implants in top-notch condition. There are also little nylon rings that grip onto the implants and hold the denture in. These wear out so often and need replacing. On average we would say patients come back every 1-2years for replacement. At the very most, the patients who want them very tight want replacements every 4 months. At the least I would say every 5 years.

Each time they are replaced a fee is chargeable and price is given at dental health review appointments (depending on manufacturer costs). If the connector on the implants gets worn then these may also need replaced. This is less common but does occur with the main reason being too long in changing of the nylon rings leading to mental on metal friction, not removing at night coupled with grinding or a diet with foods requiring extensive force over a period on months/years.

Concerns about denture movement?

There might be a small bit of wiggle when compared to natural teeth or fixed implant options, so if you want zero movement, check out the full arch implant fixed bridge options at our affiliate dentist practices.

How about using your existing denture?
It depends on its quality, but we recommend the implant-first, denture-second approach for optimal results. And for the curious minds asking about the magic number of implants, you’re looking at a minimum of 4 uppers and 2 lowers for predictability although more may be recommended. We may suggest 4 on the lowers for a fail-safe future.

Now, the big one – cost?

It varies but fear not. Our affiliated clinics offer free consultations with smile advisors who can map out the financial landscape before you commit to the full dental adventure.

So, if you are a denture despisers, it’s time to reclaim your confidence and bid farewell to the denture drama. Schedule a visit with one of our clinics and explore the world of implant-supported dentures. Your smile will thank you.
